    David Brownlow was born in 1915 in Fort Worth. A self taught artist, he gained prominence in Texas art circles after he began exhibiting in the finest juried competitions in the state in the 1940’s and was prominent in both The Texas General Exhibitions and D. D. Feldman Exhibitions of the 1950’s, his first juried award coming in 1947. He was a member of the New Orleans Art Association, The Texas Fine Arts Association, and Texas Watercolor Society. His work was honored with some forty solo exhibitions and has garnered over forty awards in juried competitions. When the Meadows Museum organized the important group exhibition Texas Painting and Sculpture: The 20th Century in 1971, David Brownlow’s work was an integral part of the exhibition. He became an instructor of art in the Fort Worth Art Museum and was in demand as critic and judge for numerous Texas art exhibitions. His work hangs in the permanent collections of numerous American museums including those of the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, The Fort Worth Art Museum, Worchester Art Museum in Massachusetts, New Mexico Museum of Fine Art, The Art Museum of South Texas.
